£5m man misses training after Rangers open talks as director admits ‘offers’

Amid suggestions that Rangers are in talks to bring a £5 million man to Ibrox this summer, he was conspicuous by his absence from Monday’s training session.

Now, exactly why he was not present is not quite clear. Was his absence due to those talks with Rangers, Ibrox director Nils Koppen reportedly holding court with Albion Rrahmani‘s representatives last week as the Glasgow giants look to steal a march on a variety of fellow suitors?

Is there a more innocent explaintion, perhaps? Rrahmani did feature off the bench during Kosovo’s 3-0 defeat to Norway recently – Erling Haaland adding yet another hat-trick to his collection – and maybe his absence was pre-planned (AS).

Rapid Bucharest’s sporting director, Daniel Sandu, insists that Rrahmani will return to the training pitch on Wednesday. Sandu is in the dark about the future of his star striker, however, admitting that a departure is possible while not providing a reason for his absence at the start of the week.

“Rrahmani will be at training tomorrow. I don’t know if he’s leaving,” the director tells Sport Romania. “The transfer window opens in June. It lasts until September. It’s time for all kinds of moves.

“I expect more players from Rapid to leave. There are good offers for (Rrahmani).”

Digisport believe that Rapid will consider offers in the £5 million bracket, despite president Dan Sucu publicly suggesting that he wants closer to £7 million. Czech Republic-based outfit Sparta Prague have already seen a lowball bid of £2.5 million knocked back.

An agile, 6ft 2ins centre-forward who appears to have both the power and the finesse to thrive in the British game, Rrahmani’s record speaks for itself. He won the Kosovan Golden Boot with Ballkani in 2022/23 and then scored 19 goals in 30 games during a fantastic debut season with a Rapid Bucharest side who recently hired Celtic legend Neil Lennon as their new head coach.

Rrahmani’s arrival at Ibrox would ease the burden on Cyriel Dessers at a time when Danilo is still looking to recover full fitness after a season ruined by injury.

“A player of great quality. He made the difference in many matches,” Rapid hero Adrien Iencsi says, via Sport Romania.

“He’s the type of player we haven’t seen in our league for a long time. I know him. I worked with him. He has a special character. Hard worker, very involved (in the build-up).

“He was born with a great talent. He is a striker who can win you a game at any time. He stood out through the goals he scored.”

Rangers have already signed Jefte Vital from Fluminense and appear to be on the verge of a deal for AC Milan youngster Clinton Nsiala too. Yusuf Kabadayi, Damian Garcia and Thomas Galdames are also targets.
